Welcome to USC Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

We will NOT be accepting any new clients after April 17th, 2021.

Per university policy, USC VITA’s physical location has been closed. However, USC VITA is offering free virtual services on an appointment basis— 1 hour 30 minutes per appointment via Zoom as well as virtual walk-ins. Please see details below. 

We accept any clients who qualify per the IRS VITA rules.
Appointment slots will be released on a week by week basis every Friday morning by 10AMVolunteer tax preparers will share their screen while preparing your taxes so that you will be “present” during the process and may ask any questions you wish.

WE WILL NOT BE RE-ACCEPTING CLIENTS WHO FAIL TO SHOW UP TO THEIR APPOINTMENT WITHOUT A FOLLOW UP NOTICE WITHIN 24 HOURS.※

Please complete ALL the steps listed below to complete your appointment booking.
1. Schedule a time slot for your appointment: https://signup.com/go/PvUZPFa.
You will be able to sign up for time slots at most one week and at least 48 hours in advance of the appointment.
2. Receive a confirmation e-mail with link to the Zoom meeting after booking an appointment.
3. Complete this form and upload the relevant documents at least 36 HOURS prior to your scheduled appointment, or your appointment will be canceled: https://bit.ly/3jjHMI1.

New Health Insurance Requirement for California Income Taxes

Beginning January 1, 2020, all California residents must either:

Have qualifying health insurance coverage for all members of your household
Obtain an exemption from the requirement to have coverage

Pay a penalty when they file their state tax return (From $750 and upwards)

Recovery Rebate Credit

If you did not receive your stimulus check, you are eligible for the refundable Recovery Rebate Credit, which can reduce your tax liability or increase your refunds by the amount of the stimulus.

Generally, you are eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit if you were a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien in 2020, cannot be claimed as a dependent of another taxpayer for tax year 2020, and have a Social Security number valid for employment that is issued before the due date of your 2020 tax return (including extensions).
