Dear clients,

We appreciate your patience and understanding. Please read and follow these steps carefully to file tax with us.

Before you begin:

  • Please check this page to ensure you qualify for VITA assistance. Federal law and IRS prohibit VITA from filing tax returns, if any of the listed scenarios apply to you.
  • Ensure you have received all tax documents (in rare cases, documents by mail take longer time to arrive) and have them scanned to computer.
  • Fill out all questions, to the best of your ability, on the intake sheet:
    • US Citizens, Green card holders, Residents: [Here]
    • Nonresidents: [Here]
    • (Residents = F-1 visa students who have been physically in US for more than five years)
  • Decide if you wish to visit our zoom or in-person appointment.
  • Please note: while USC VITA makes every effort to file correct tax returns, we do not know, nor have expertise in using the Sprintax software. We cannot compare and/or explain why your refund amount differs from Sprintax outputs. (Most likely, you did not enter certain tax treaties or apply deductions correctly)
  • If you have some tax questions, or when USC VITA will file your tax return, you may find answers here

Once you have everything ready to go, you may fill out the [Google form] here. This will take you approximately 15 minutes. We will provide instructions for how to log in to Zoom and in-person address once you fill out everything. If you plan to join our zoom sessions, you must fill out this Google form, in its entirety, in advance.

All clients may visit our zoom and in-person sessions on a first come, first serve basis. We list all available zoom slots on our Popup. We have in-person shifts every Friday and Saturday. We will pair you with a volunteer to start your tax return, if we have enough time and volunteers. You can book appointment spots to secure a session with us, but we do not respond to any emails requesting appointments or individual accommodations.

We advise you to upload all files as soon as possible, even if you plan to come in-person. If you have a hardship accessing this form, you may email us at uscvita@gmail.com and we will assist you. Our volunteers can also help you submitting this google form on-site, if you visit in-person sessions.

It is against federal law to threaten any IRS personnel, 18 U.S.C. § 111 or 26 U.S.C. § 7212(a). You may be subject to penalty and/or imprisonment.
